About Georgie

Colourful Bristol based Artist who will brighten up your home!

I’m Georgie Webster, a Bristol artist based in Montpelier. I work with a variety of different mediums but predominantly paint with acrylics. For me, it’s all about colour, whether the subject is animals or people, whether the medium is paint or wool, colour is how I experiment with different moods and emotions.
Having established my career painting animals such as Hamish the Highland Cow, I have recently become interested in the human form, exploring themes of gender stereotypes and the different pressures on both women and men.  My colourful and vibrant butts celebrate bodies of all shapes and sizes (who doesn’t love a booty!).  I am also working on an on-going series of male nudes. Here, I choose to paint men in softer poses more traditionally associated with the female form. My aim is to show the softer side of masculinity, demonstrating its spectrum beyond what is strong, brave or unemotional.  Whilst society encourages us to hide the more tender, vulnerable aspect of those who choose to identify as male, it can also give rise to the toxic masculinity we have come to accept as the norm. I believe that by celebrating diverse representations of masculinity, we are all encouraged to embrace the entirety of who we are and become happier, healthier individuals.

Whilst I paint I become fascinated with how my paint palettes evolve during a piece and the beauty of them in their own right. As a result, I have turned some into Giclee prints, working in gold leaf or glitter. This process allows two works of art evolving as one yet being almost entirely different.
